BARNARDSVILLE—Mildred I. Carson, age 92, of 597 Dillingham Rd., died Thursday, November 3, 2011.
Mrs. Carson was born March 20, 1919, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She and her late husband, Chester, operated Carson's Gulf from 1950 to 1984. Mildred enjoyed vegetable gardening, her flowers, sewing, and, most important, her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Abbie Holcombe Carson; husband, Chester D. Carson; sister, Ruth Sams; and nephews, Dennis and David Hensley.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Carson and Kyle Honeycutt of Mars Hill, and Linda Carson and Bill Stafford of Arden; son, Pete Carson and wife Judy of Barnardsville; sisters, Sarah "To To" Carson, Bobbie Carson, and Sandy Hensley; and granddaughter, Megan Stafford.
Her funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Dean Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in Williams Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
