MILDRED BARBARA McGHEE PATTERSON ASHEVILLE - Mildred Barbara McGhee Patterson, age 89, of the Oakley Community went to be with the Lord Friday, August 15, 2014. Mrs. Patterson was born February 15, 1925 in Elizabethton, TN and was a resident of Buncombe County since the early 1960's. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who touched the lives and hearts of others with her kind, caring and generous spirit. She was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church for many years and devoted herself to her beloved daughter, Toni for over 50 years. She was a daughter of the late Sherman and Lena Jones McGhee and wife of the late Dr. Robert G. Patterson who died September 12, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert "Bob" Anderson; along with several brothers and sisters. Surviving are her daughters, Sue Ponder of Fletcher, and Toni Elaine Patterson of the home; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Anderson of Forest City; sisters, Betty Bowers and husband Lewis, Rhea Johns, and Jean Kyte; grandchildren, April Walter and husband Matthew, Tonia Ponder, Tami Hogan, and Kim Ponder; great grandchildren, Myles Lance, Chance Enneking, Sydney Hogan, and Emma Walter; and nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2014, in Oakley United Methodist Church, 607 Fairview Road, Asheville, with Rev. Rick Schilling officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in her memory to be made to Oakley United Methodist Church, 607 Fairview Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
