WEAVERVILLE– Minnie Roberts Rice, of the Long’s Chapel Community of Weaverville, died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the age of 100 years, 9 months and 8 days.
Mrs. Rice was born January 1, 1918 in Buncombe County to the late George and Lena Brooks Roberts; she was a resident of Buncombe County all her life. Minnie was a cashier at Stoney Knob Supermarket, retiring in 1973. She enjoyed quilting, having made hundreds of quilts in her lifetime. Minnie was the oldest member of Long’s Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Vestal Rice who died in 1987; infant son, George Robert Rice; infant daughter, Ruby Maria Rice; son, Donnie E. Rice; sisters, Sadie Ingle, Mary Wise, and Annie Olmstead; brothers, Jack, Joe, Toabe, and Jake Roberts.
Surviving are her son, Jerry Rice, sister, Barbara Bradley and brother, John Roberts all of Weaverville; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Burial will follow in Long’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Weaverville.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Jerry Rice, 229 Herron Cove Road, Weaverville.
