WEAVERVILLE– Myrtle Ballard Roberts, age 99, of Weaverville, passed away February 3, 2018.
She was the daughter of the late Minnie Smith and Dennis Ballard. She, along with ten siblings, grew up on a farm/orchard in the Ox Creek Community of Buncombe County where they were taught the importance of Godly virtues, family, education, and a strong work ethic. Myrtle was a 1936 graduate of Weaverville High School. She was a gracious lady who loved sharing with others-especially her delicious home cooking. Myrtle was a member of Reems Creek-Beech Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Roberts, who passed away on February 4, 1985; brothers, Clarence, Clyde, Burley, Buren, Will, and Jay Ballard; sisters, Beulah Hemphill, Nola Bradley, Mae Bradley, and Elinor Tarvin.
Surviving are her daughter, Wilma Penland and husband Bill; son, Bill Roberts and wife Mary Deane; grandchildren, Susan Reavis and husband Joe, Dave Penland and wife Susan Shaw Penland, Michael Roberts and William Roberts; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Reems Creek-Beech Presbyterian Church, Weaverville. Reverend Dana Vaughn and Reverend Jay Rabuck will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Weaverville Cemetery, Weaverville.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave, Weaverville, NC 28787.
