Nancy Willis Hyder

WEAVERVILLE – Nancy Willis Hyder, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2024 at her home. She was born on July 30, 1931 in Buncombe County where she lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Geter Willis, Sr. and Genevieve Carr Willis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil S. Hyder; her brother, Geter Willis, Jr.; and her sister, Lois Sherlin.

Nancy loved her grandchildren, who were very special to her. She was also a lover of animals and an avid birdwatcher. An artistic and creative seamstress, Nancy made special costumes and outfits for family members. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of shopping and working in her yard. Nancy loved the Lord and her church family at North Asheville Baptist Church, now Brookstone.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dianne Moody (Thomas) and Linda Tweed (Greg); sisters, Lorene Cogdill and Judy Waddell; grandchildren, Kimberly Hennessy (Sean) and Megan Tweed; and great grandchild, Bella Garrison.

Nancy’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville.
