Nanette Louise Doerr

BOONE – Nanette “Nan” Louise Doerr, age 73, of Boone, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Atruium Health in North Wilkesboro.

She was born on March 28, 1951, in Tucson, AZ. Nan was the daughter of Cheryl Henry and the late Richard Henry. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Bart Henry; and niece, Melissa Henry.

As part of a military family, she lived throughout the United States and Europe—first with her father’s career in the Air Force and later with her former husband’s career in the Army. At the age of 47, Nan settled in Boone, North Carolina, and immediately fell in love with the High Country. Within a year, she found her dream home nestled in the Meat Camp area, where she would reside for the remainder of her life.

Nan’s heart knew no bounds—especially when it came to animals. She cared for a variety of beloved companions over the years, including dogs, cats, chickens, and rabbits. Equally important was her profound respect and gratitude for veterans, stemming from a lifetime connected to the military. As a 39-year cancer survivor, Nan also had a heart for those affected by cancer. Starting from childhood, Nan was a gifted artist who enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, ballet, oil painting, and gardening. Nan spent many hours outside in the spring and summer planting flowers or vegetables, and many hours in the colder months working on projects in her sewing room.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen Doerr and husband Adam, and Karl Doerr and wife Mary; mother, Cheryl Henry; sister, Pam Hrncir and husband Brent; four beloved grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
