NINA MARTIN CHESSON
WEAVERVILLE/ LOUISVILLE, KY-Nina "Sister" Martin Chesson, age 85, born July 10, 1929 in Louisville, KY passed away peacefully December 13, 2014 with family members by her side.
She resided in Louisville at the time of her death. Her parents, Everett Leon Martin and Nina Redmon Martin, her sister, Peggy Ann Martin Blankenship, and Rev. Dr. Francis Chesson, her husband of 40 years, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Chesson leaves behind two sisters, Bettie Jane Martin Wilkie of Lexington, KY and Patsy Joy Martin Bendall (Will) of Phoenix, AZ. She also leaves 11 nieces and nephews, each of whom consider themselves to be "Aunt Nina's favorite." Larry Wilkie (Jennifer), Kim Wilkie (Donna), Pam Wilkie, Barbara Blankenship Barker, Craig Wilkie (Rita), Bobby Blankenship (Kathy), Cheryl Blankenship Besterman (Rick), Kelly House (Sandy), Leslie House Barlow (Glenn), Jenifer House Wunderlich (Gary ), and Laura House Fittz (Kevin). Family members spent many summers with Aunt Nina and Uncle Francis exploring the beaches of NC, hearing stories of their travels and friends, and especially enjoying Aunt Nina's wonderful sense of humor.
Mrs. Chesson graduated with honors from Wake Forest University where she met and married Francis Chesson. She also attended Louisville Baptist Seminary where she earned a degree in Religious Education. Francis served as Baptist minister in Whiteville, NC, Burgaw, NC, Florence, SC, and Camden, AK. He was also as an interim minister in Black Mountain and Weaverville, NC. Nina was an active volunteer providing help and support to each of these congregations alongside her husband.
Nina Chesson wrote many years ago, "I need to remember that my Heavenly Father has charted every road ahead for me; and it is good. For the Christian, the way to eternal life with our Lord has been charted. Christ Himself is the way. And He says to His followers, "I go to prepare a place for you; and I will come again to receive you unto myself." (John 14:2-3).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 20, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Weaverville. The Rev. Jim McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
