WEAVERVILLE– Obie Hollister “Brownie” Brown, age 94, of Weaverville, died Friday, December 15, 2017.
Mr. Brown was born June 12, 1923 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He worked in a CCC Camp in Washington State before serving in World War II in the European Tour. Obie was a member of First Baptist Church Weaverville and the Weaverville Lions Club where he served as president for several years. For 35 years he bowled weekly. He previously worked for Gilbert/Hickory Printing Group and Blue Ridge Printing Co. Preceding him in death were his wife of 66 years, Peggy Sluder Brown who died in 2014; as well as nine brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his children, Daryl Brown and wife Dolores of Waxhaw, Lisa Davis and husband Ray of Asheville, Dana Brown of the home, and Dale Brown and wife Michelle of Fairview; grandchildren, Drew Brown and wife Lisa, Kevin Davis and wife Bailey, Sean Davis and wife Alicia, Corey Brown and Shelby Brown; also six great grandsons.
His graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in West Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Billy King and Rev. Lee Roy Denton officiating.
