ASHEVILLE—Odessa Ariail Woodard, age 91, of Asheville died Sunday, November 29, 2009. Mrs. Woodard was born March 5, 1918, in Maysville, Ga., she grew up in Georgia and later moved to Asheville. Her first job was at the S & W Cafeteria and later she was employed with the US Postal Service for 20 plus years, starting in Asheville and retiring in Dallas, Texas. After retirement she moved back to Asheville. She was the daughter of the late Vincent Dallas and Minnie Tanner Ariail. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Woodard, who died in 1991; sister, Christine Spangler and brother, Lawrence Ariail. Surviving are her son, Wayne E. Woodard and wife Teri Hilburn Woodard of Wilmington; sisters, Velma Holcombe of Enka, Betty Lyles and husband Jim of Asheville and Peggy Bridges and husband Doc of Shelby; grandchildren, Jessica L. Woodard of Asheville and Shaun C. Woodard of Duchesne, Utah and great granddaughter, Victoria L. Estes of Burnsville. Mrs. Woodard's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. George Hutchins officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the funeral home.
