ONNIE MAE HAWKINS RASH
WEAVERVILLE - Onnie Mae Hawkins Rash, age 96, of Weaverville, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Emerald Ridge, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Rash was born December 20, 1918 in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was employed at Burlington Industries for 29 years. Onnie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and loved reading, writing, music and lots of laughs. She and her husband enjoyed camping at Lake Douglas for many years. Onnie also loved Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Alexander of which she was the oldest member. She was a daughter of the late Rivers and Lucinda Martin Hawkins and wife of the late Tommy M. Rash, for 55 years, who died in 1991, also preceded in death by two sisters, Rosa Ratcliff and Essie Morrison; five brothers, Arnold, Wilburn, Convard, Glen, and Porter Hawkins; and a son-in-law, Billy J. Shelton.
Surviving are her daughters, Shirley Shelton and Carolyn Redmon and her husband Bruce all of Alexander; son, Jimmy Rash of Weaverville; two granddaughters, Sharon Shelton and fiancé Ken, and Kimberly Fraser and husband Chris; two grandsons, Donald Redmon and wife Marilyn, and Michael Rash and fiancé Jenny; two great grandsons, Logan and Austin Rash; and her sister, Genevieve Meadows of Weaverville.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Allen Rash, Harold Rash, and Roy McPeters officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at the funeral home.
