Ora Parris Sluder, age 92 of Alexander, died Saturday, November 23, 2013.
Mrs. Sluder was born October 10, 1921, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was a Charter member of Alexander Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late James Ervin Parris and Delia Haney Parris and wife of the late Arnold Lee Sluder who died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Sluder; great grandson, Cale Lane Shope; sisters, Edith and Gladys Parris, and Lillian Redmon; and brothers, Clayton, Glenn, and Dennis Parris.
Surviving are her daughter, Vivian Cheek and husband Bill; son, J.E. Sluder and wife Cheryl and Randy Sluder and wife Vanessa all of Alexander; daughter-in-law, Mary Sluder of N. Wilkesboro; sister, Jennie Sluder of Alexander; brother, Tony Parris and wife Kathleen of Alexander; sisters-in-law, Mary Sprinkle of Morristown, TN and Rhea Parris of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2013, in Alexander Baptist Church with Reverends Gerald Sprinkle, Jeff Maynard, and Randy Sluder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at West Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Vivian and Bill Cheek.

Merrimon Avenue (Old Weaverville Hwy.) Go 1.3 miles and turn left on Old Marshall Hwy. (toward Division of Prison Facility). Go about 1.7 miles. Turn right on Hwy. 251 and go about 3.4 miles and turn left on Fletcher Martin Rd. go about .6 miles and Curtis Parker Rd. is on the right. So is the church.
