Orpha Annabelle Schubert

Weaverville, NC - Orpha Annabelle (Pookie) Schubert, age 88, passed away on October 8, 2021 at her home in Weaverville, NC. Pookie was born on March 3, 1933 in Lena, Illinois to Grover Cleveland and Orpha Wiley Shippee. She married Roger Stadel (Nip) Schubert on August 9, 1952 at Lena Methodist Church in Lena.

After retirement, Pookie and Nip moved back to North Carolina where they had started their life together in 1952 when Nip was in the Marine Corps after his tour of duty in Korea.  They retired in Western NC where they enjoyed sightseeing and exploring the mountains and especially spending time with family.  

Pookie is survived by one daughter, Jeri Ann (Tom) Beck of Weaverville; two grandchildren, Jonathan Roger (Lori) Monigold and Julie Ann (Jonathan) Foshay six great-grandchildren, Isak, Hanna, Tate, Broder, Kaleb and Kenzie Annabelle and one sister, Elsie Lobdell of Lena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nip; son, Jeffery Roger Schubert; daughter Cynthia Sue (Cindy) Schubert; two brothers, Robert Shippee and infant Leon Shippee; five sisters, Ruth Ingram, Sarah Phillips, Geraldine Prince, Virginia Haas, and Lois Paulsen; six brothers-in-law, Alex Chiaravalle, Dale Phillips, Bill Prince, Louie Paulsen, Albert Ingram and Don Lobdell;  and one sister-in-law, Pat Shippee.

There will be no local services.

A private family graveside service will be held at Salem Shippee Cemetery in McConnell, Illinois and will be under the guidance of Leamon Funeral Home.
