Orville W. Griffin, age 89, of Clark's Chapel Ext., died Saturday, June 22, 2013.
Mr. Griffin was born September 25, 1923, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He retired from Burlington Industries after 41 years and the N.C. Forest Service. He attended school at French Broad and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Deede and Stella Ratcliff Griffin; wife of 52 years who died in 2009, Billie Jones Griffin; sister, Wilma Sluder; brother, Clarence Griffin; daughter, Gail Rajala; and granddaughter, Toni Dillingham.
Surviving are his daughter, Carolyn Jones of Weaverville; son, Dana Griffin and wife Tami of Mars Hill; sister, Pauline Holcombe and husband Oscar; brother-in-law Bill Sluder; brother, James Griffin, all of Alexander; sister-in-law, Elsie Griffin of Asheville; granddaughters, Dottie Gentry, Tammy Ray, Gina Downs, Alex Griffin and Chandra Cutshall and husband Scott; 4 great granddaughters; 7 great grandsons; 1 great great granddaughter; and 5 great great grandsons.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2013, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Zane Edmonds officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2013 at the funeral home.
