Paul Richard "P.R." Bailey

WEAVERVILLE – Paul Richard “P.R.” Bailey, age 79, of Weaverville went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2025, after suffering from heart failure.

Mr. Bailey was born on April 26, 1945, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He graduated from T.C. Roberson High School in 1964. He worked with his dad at Bailey’s Garage and Wrecker Service. After his dad died, he bought the garage and later opened Bailey’s Body Shop. He also worked with Ken Bailey Auto Sales & K.B. Tire. P.R. worked 15 years with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s office and later 15 years with the North Carolina DMV Enforcement Weigh Station where he retired as a Sgt. He was a member of the NCDMV Enforcement Retiree Association and faithfully attended Woodfin Baptist Church. He also served as a Deacon at several churches since 1969. He loved camping, riding his bike, working on his Jeep, and watching his grandson play baseball.

P.R. was the son of the late Paul King and Elsie Cates Bailey. He was also preceded in death by grandson, Dillon Bailey; brother, Clifford Bailey; and sister, Sarah Robinson.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Ann Lunsford Bailey; son, Ken Bailey and wife Marianne; sister, Colleen Creson and husband Doug; and grandson, Trever Bailey and wife Allie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 28, 2025, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. J.D. Gipe and Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville, with honors by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The family will receive friends from 9:15 to 10:45 am, Friday, at West Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
