Peggy Jean DeBruhl Black

      ASHEVILLE – Peggy Jean DeBruhl Black, age 88, of Asheville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Allen and Beatrice Thompson DeBruhl, passed away at Mission Hospital on January 29, 2024 after a short illness.

    She was a graduate of French Broad High School and Blanton’s Business College. She worked as a secretary for several years and became interested in interior decorating, which she studied and pursued. She worked for Peppertree Resorts in Asheville and designed and furnished all of their resorts in several states until her retirement. 

    She loved beautiful flowers, crafting, jewelry-making, and painting. She attended and was pianist at Alexander Baptist Church for many years. She was a clog dancer for 35 years and retired as the Director of the Great Smoky Mountain Cloggers. She was a North Carolina Tarheel and Duke basketball fan, but her greatest love was her daughter, grandchildren and her great-grandson.

    She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Boyd D. Black; her daughter, Lori Caruso and her husband Frank of Acworth, Georgia; grandchildren, Ashley, Lexi, and Gavin Caruso of Acworth, Georgia; Kayla Hodges and her husband Lawson of High Point, North Carolina; and great-grandson, Beckett Hodges of High Point, North Carolina. 

    The family will receive friends at West Funeral Home in Weaverville, North Carolina, on Friday, February 2, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Her funeral service for family and friends will be Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Reverend C. W. Anthony will officiate. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
