Peggy Whitt Ray

WEAVERVILLE – Peggy Whitt Ray, age 71, of 158 Ivy Hill Road died Saturday, March 11, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Ray was born June 20, 1945 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. A 1963 graduate of Mars Hill High School; she did sewing for 30 years and then worked as a manager for Photo Quik on Merrimon Avenue. She was a member of Ivy Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Her parents, Donald and Eugenia Metcalf Whitt as well as her brother, D.L. Whitt preceded her in death. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Mimi. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Robert Ray; daughters, Tammy Ponder and husband Alvin and Lora Freeman; sisters, Marie Emory and husband Rev. Worth Emory, Louise Gillis and husband Bill, Ann Dugger and husband Charles and Edith Whitt; brothers-in-law, John Smith and wife Phyllis and Richard Norton; grandchildren, Jordan Burchette and husband Rev. Mason Burchette, Cody English, Derek Ponder and Lucas Fore; and great grandchildren, Emmeline Burchette, Landon and Hailey Ponder. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Worth Emory and Rev. Mason Burchette officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
