PEGGY THOMAS REID
WEAVERVILLE – Peggy Thomas Reid, age 84, of Weaverville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017, with her family by her side.
Peggy was born on February 20, 1933, to the late Roscoe B. and Edna Mae Copeland Fountain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. James Herbert Reid, Jr. (Ret), who died in 2015.
Peggy was a bright, beautiful, incredibly smart woman who was way ahead of her time in the business world. For many years Peggy presided over a large real estate firm. She considered her agents a part of her extended family. Peggy’s warmth and kindness, as well as her high ethical standards, made her a beloved figure in the real estate world.
Yet, her children and their families are her brightest legacy. Each, thanks to Peggy’s example and support, has made productive, fulfilling lives for themselves and has earned the respect of their communities. They are very proud to have had Peggy as their mother.
Surviving Peggy are her daughter, Teri Thomas Allstaedt and husband Steven of Asheville; sons, Landon Thomas and wife Rosa of Orlando, FL, Russell Thomas and wife Linda Stills of Fairview, Herb Reid, III, and wife Ann, also of Orlando, FL; brother, Roscoe B. “Sonny” Fountain, Jr. of Timmonsville, SC; eight grandchildren, Yvette, Landon J., Christopher, Loren, Elsa, Ingrid, Arie and Stephanie, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family greatly appreciates the hard work and dedication of her caregivers, Kenneth Shaw and Carla Hill.
Peggy’s funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, NC, with the Reverend Wesley Pike officiating. Burial will be close to the waterfall in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, and again from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday before the funeral service.
Flowers are welcome.
