WEAVERVILLE – Rev. Phil J. Willett, age 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Rev. Willett was born December 14, 1943 in Spring Creek, Madison County to the late Hardy and Motelle Woody Willett. He was a Vietnam Vet and served in the US Army from 1964-1966. Rev. Willett had preached throughout North Carolina and parts of Eastern TN for the past 40 years; serving as pastor in various churches in Buncombe and Madison County. He retired as a truck driver from Peak Energy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Elwanda W. Crowder and brothers, Devoah, Roemane and Bobby Gerald Willett. Phil loved his family and was very proud of them. Surviving are his wife of almost 49 years, Joyce Faye Conner Willett; daughters, Lynette Willett, Tammy W. Ballard and husband Eddie and Christie W. Stewart and husband Chad; seven grandchildren, Dustin Ballard, Zachary Ballard and wife Taylor, Brianna Ballard, Collin Wheeler, Gage VanEtten, Alex Stewart and Abby Stewart; one great grandchild, Maxen Ballard; brothers, Gerome Willett and Benny Willett; sisters-in-law, Hilda Willett and Ada Willett and mother-in-law, Clara Conner. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Reverends Raymond Cantrell, Frank Willett and Garland Rice officiating Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Charles George VA Hospice, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
