Philip Leland Corns

Philip Corns went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 84, after a valiant two-year battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Hillsboro, IL. Philip joined the Navy, serving four years that included duty on the submarine tender USS Orion, as well as on the submarine USS Cubera. After leaving the Navy, he moved to Downers Grove, IL, working at Pepperidge Farm Bakeries. He later worked at Michelin Tire in Spartanburg, SC. Philip also worked as Assistant Chief Engineer at The Grove Park Inn Resort, as well as at Southeastern Container. Philip’s hobbies included panning for gold and metal detecting.

He leaves behind Betty, his wife of 65 years, daughter Phyllis, as well as his brother Grant Corns and sister Jeanie Eggleston of Olhm, IL.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Sky View Memorial Park in Asheville, NC with Deacon Bert Dix officiating.
