WEAVERVILLE—Phillip L. Fender, age 60 of 830 Reems Creek Road was healed from pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
Phillip was born June 2, 1953 in Buncombe County to the late Mose and Savada Hall Fender. He formerly volunteered at the Jupiter Fire Department and Reems Creek Fire Department. For 38 years he was employed at Harry's On the Hill and he owned and operated Fender's Lawn Care Service. Phillip was a member of Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church for 52 years where he served as choir director, sound engineer and played softball for many years. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are his wife Ann Roberts Fender; daughters, Jocelyn Freeman and husband Donny of Weaverville and Robyn Fender of Matthews; special son, Charles Cheek of Lexington Park, MD; sisters, Linda Fender and husband Jock, Barbara Davis and husband Oasten and Elwanda Riddle all of Weaverville; mother-in-law, Mary Catherine Roberts of Weaverville and grandchildren, Grayson, Callie and Gaven.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, 290 Sheppard Branch Rd., Weaverville with Rev. Mike Thomas and Rev. Roy McPeters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Due to limited parking at the church please carpool if possible.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.
At other times the family will be at the residence.
