Phyllis Charsky Griffith

PHYLLIS CHARSKY GRIFFITH WEAVERVILLE – Phyllis Charsky Griffith, age 85, of Weaverville died Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Mrs. Griffith was born August 20, 1930 in Genesee County, NY to the late Arthur Otto and Mildred Barfield Charsky. She was a resident of Booneville, NY as a child where she first met her husband. As teens they were baptized by her father in the church he pastored prior to the family moving. Phyllis graduated from Toulon High School, class of 1949 in Toulon, IL and in 1952 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Methodist Hospital of Nursing in Peoria, IL. Phyllis and Richard were reconnected several years after they had met as children and were married in June of 1953. They were residents of Apopka, FL for a number of years before moving to Weaverville where they joined Woodland Hills Church in 1997. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Richard Griffith; daughter, Sylvia Hamilton and husband Chuck; sons, David Griffith and wife Pat, Tim Griffith and wife Jeannie; brother, Eugene Charsky and wife Marion; grandchildren, Elisabeth, Justin, Ben, Amy, Joshua, John, Aaron, Nathan; great grandchildren, Aurora and Aria; nephews, Kevin, Brett and Bruce. Her funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Pastors Chris Dillon and Bob Belford officiating. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
