MARS HILL – Phyllis L. Neshem, 87, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023. She was born in Glens Falls, NY on April 27, 1936 to the late Earl and Alberta Baker Anderson. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, D.J. “Stephen” Neshem; and her brother, Earl Anderson.
For 20 years Phyllis worked as a secretary for Lorri Studios, Inc., a photography company she and her husband owned that shot senior portraits in the Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina school systems. After moving to Mars Hill, she worked for 10 years at Mars Hill University as a secretary in the Continuing Education Department. She attended GracePoint Church in North Asheville and had a strong faith in Jesus. Phyllis loved her family and her church family. She took great joy in spending time with both groups. Her loss will be felt by many!
Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie West and her husband, Clint of Hickory, NC and their children and stepchildren, Austin Smith and spouse Laura, Alexis DiSabitino and spouse Jake, both of Black Mountain, NC., Alyssa Smith, and Courtney, Carley, Casey, and Cayley West, all of Hickory, NC.; her son, Stephen E. Neshem and his wife, Stacey and their sons, Aaron and A. Christian Neshem, all of Cantonment, FL.
Phyllis is also survived by a brother-in-law, William Neshem of Pensacola, FL; sister-in-law, Rose Pittman of Pensacola, FL; plus nieces and nephews, Tammy Kercher of Tallahassee, FL, Jennifer Fisher and her husband, Jim, of Marietta, GA, Stephen E. Pittman and his partner, Brock, of Gadsden, AL, Shane Pittman and his wife, Sandy, of Pensacola, FL, and Robert Neshem and his wife, Mariela, of Orlando, FL. Phyllis is further survived by Pam Anderson of Queensbury, NY and three more nieces and two more nephews also from NY.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at GracePoint Church, 50 Woodland Hills Road, Asheville. Rev. Bob Belford, Dr. Bill Brown and Rev. Neil Montgomery will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 6:00pm at the church. Pall bearers will be Clint West, Joe Blair, Jake DiSabitino, Aaron Neshem, Christian Neshem, and Austin Smith. Burial will be private.
