RACHEL HOWARD METCALF WEAVERVILLE – Rachel Howard Metcalf, age 71, of Weaverville died Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Mrs. Metcalf was born on May 18, 1945 in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She retired from Magnavox after 37 years. She was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church where she served as secretary and was a member of the Secret Pals. Rachel was a daughter of Jamie Riddle Howard of Skyland and the late James Sidney Howard. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Randell Metcalf; a daughter, Amanda Metcalf of Fairmont, W.V.; sisters, Betty Whidden and husband Ray, Geraldine Maynard, Peggy Lindsey and husband Leonard, Mary Jo Howard, Sherry Williamson and husband Bobby; a brother, Charles Howard and wife Irene. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Worth Emory officiating. Burial will be near the waterfall in West Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
