WEAVERVILLE—Dr. Raymond Louis Carol, age 89, of Weaverville died Monday, November 22, 2010.
Dr. Carol was born January 9, 1921, in New York City to Anna and Marcel Carol. He received his A.B. degree from Johns Hopkins in 1947, his M.A. degree from Syracuse University in 1951, and his Ph.D. from Syracuse University in 1956. Dr. Carol taught at Lemoyne College, Syracuse, NY, from 1947 to 1958, and he taught Government and Politics at St. John's University from 1958 to 1990. He retired as Professor Emeritus of Government and Politics. He served from 1943-1946 in World War II, the European Theater, as sergeant, Combat Engineers. After moving to Asheville in 1996, he volunteered with the VA, R.A.I.S.E. and Guardian ad Litem.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Bourque Carol; six stepchildren; nine step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
His funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, December 2, 2010, in the Basilica of St. Lawrence with Father Morris Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
