RAYMOND RICE PROSPERITY, SC - Raymond Rice, age 87, of Prosperity, SC died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at his home. Mr. Rice was born September 11, 1927 in Buncombe County where he had lived most of his life. He was a resident of Newberry County for the past 17 years where he lived with his niece Ruth Parker and her husband Herbert. Raymond was a retired rock mason and attended Freedom Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Martin W. and Mitia Williams Rice. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by son, Freddie Martin Rice and nine siblings. Surviving are his sister, Itaska Smith of Virginia as well as many nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Eddie Bledsoe officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
