Rev. Jerry C. Kent

WEAVERVILLE– Rev. Jerry C. Kent, age 75, of Weaverville went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 11, 2020. Rev. Kent was born September 30, 1944 in Buncombe County to the late Calvin Coolidge and Evelyn Silver Kent; he had lived all of his life in Buncombe County. He pastored churches since 1986: Shady Grove Baptist Church, Lower Rice Creek Baptist Church in TN, and Grace Baptist Church in Marshall.

Jerry was employed at Square D for 17 years and was owner of Jerry’s Bibles and Books for 18 years, along with a second hand store called Whitney and the Papaw. He enjoyed reading and loved books.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Geneva Gunter Kent; daughter, Tanya Payne and husband Donald; son, Daryl Kent and girlfriend Kim Kiser; sisters, Lorraine Baker and husband Lane, Gail Revis and husband Glen and Debra Aly and husband Roger; brother, David Kent and wife Wendy; grandchildren, Whitney Rank and husband Billy, Dylan Mundy and Holston Kent; and great grandchildren, William and Charlotte Rank.

Rev. Kent’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2020 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Moore and Rev. Dewayne Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Friday prior to the funeral.
