RICHARD "RICK" GARRISON MARS HILL - Richard "Rick" Garrison, age 63, died Monday, September 29, 2014. Rick was born January 31, 1951 in Buncombe County where he lived most of his life, having lived in Madison County for the last fifteen years. He loved trips with family to the beach and Pigeon Forge; visits with the kids and grandchildren; classic cars and NASCAR. He had served in the U.S. Army Reserve for seven years and was a sub-contractor with Sears for 25 years. Rick was always helping family and friends with home improvement projects. He was the son of the late Halbert W. Garrison and Ambra Hess Garrison. Also preceding him in death was his father-in-law, Jack Henderson. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Sue Henderson Garrison; children, Chad Garrison of Holly Springs, John Tate and wife Rachel of Weaverville and Robin Melton and husband Tim of Black Mountain; sister, Sandra Garrison Massey and husband Bob of Black Mountain; mother-in-law, May Henderson of Black Mountain and grandchildren, Connor Garrison and Alyssa Garrison of Holly Springs, Tyler Roberts of Black Mountain, and Trevor Tate and Danielle Tate of Weaverville. His service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Gillikin officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. In his later days Rick loved sitting on his deck, at the home he and Sue built, enjoying 50 mile views of the mountains with family and friends; including Paul and Shelia Martin as well as many others.
