RICHARD R. TWEED
WEAVERVILLE - Richard R. Tweed, age 85 of Weaverville died Thursday, April 2, 2015 at John F. Keever Solace Center, Asheville.
Mr. Tweed was born May 26, 1929 in Greenville County, SC and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. Richard served as an Airborne Infantry Ranger in the US Army and was a member and past master of Blackmer Masonic Lodge #170 A.F. and A.M.; he worked for Micro Switch and attended Brittain's Cove Presbyterian Church.
A son of the late Liston C. and Ruby Hunter Tweed he is also preceded in death by sisters, Betty Fortner and Beulah Davis; and brother, Clyde Tweed.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years Sarah Maxwell Tweed; daughter, Elaine Tweed of Weaverville; son, Gary Tweed and wife Kay also of Weaverville; granddaughter, Kristen L. Tweed; sister, Jane Ramsey and husband Frank of Leicester; brothers, Rev. Sherman Tweed and wife Lois of Weaverville, Rev. Walter Tweed of Leicester, and Kenny Tweed of Weaverville; brother-in-law, Roy Fortner; two "adopted" daughters, Lois Barrett and Karen Silver; and special friends Jim and Lorraine Morris.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend George Hutchins officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
