Robbie Meadows Austin

ALEXANDER—Robbie Meadows Austin, age 98 formerly of Alexander died Saturday, March 31, 2012 in Mocksville. Mrs. Austin was born April 16, 1913 in Madison County to the late Roy Clyde and Dessie Mae Hagan Meadows. She was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life and retired from Woolworth Co. in 1976. Mrs. Austin was a member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Sam F. Austin, Sr. who died in 1977; daughter, Barbara Louise "Beez" Austin; son, Sam F. Austin, Jr.; brother, Charles "Jabo" Meadows; sisters, Pearl Parham and Dora M. Sluder and an infant twin brother and sister. Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Ellen Austin of Mocksville; sisters, Lucille Haney and Catherine Robinson both of Alexander and Nell Haney of Asheville; three grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. Everette Haney officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 prior to the funeral service.
