Robert Eugene Anders

ASHEVILLE – Gene Anders, age 70, of Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 9, 2023.  He was born on January 25, 1953, in Buncombe County to the late Paul Eugene and Helen Burnette Anders.  In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Anders, and son-in-law, Greg Mace.

   A resident of Buncombe County all of his life, Gene drove a school bus for Buncombe County Schools.  In his retirement he worked with Asheville Parks and Recreation at the Senior Ops Center on Grove Street. He was also a referee and umpire for youth league, middle and high school football, basketball, baseball, and softball in Western NC for more than 40 years. He faithfully attended Newbridge Baptist Church each Sunday and loved the Lord. Gene is survived by his children, Angela Anders Mace and Richard Eugene Anders, and grandsons, Zachary Mace, Christian Mace and Aydan Anders.

  His funeral service will be held at 2:30p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804.  Reverend Clark Henderson will officiate, and the family will receive friends at the church from 1pm until 2:15pm before the funeral service.
