ASHEVILLE - Robert "Bob" Bastien, age 78 of 33 Marlwood Court died Friday, July 3, 2015. Bob was born March 30, 1937 in New Bedford, Mass. and was a resident of Asheville since 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy and played trumpet in the Naval Band. A 1976 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Bob was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and was employed at Morris Funeral Home in Asheville for 20 years and at West Funeral Home for 5 years. He and his wife owned Glenda Kay's Salon in Asheville. Bob enjoyed playing trumpet in the Buddy K. Band. He was the son of the late Anthony M. Bastien and Emily Holden Bastien Emerson. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Glenda Hawkins Bastien; daughters, Lori Rada of Chesapeake, VA and Melissa Clark and husband Greg of Johnson City, TN; sons, David Bastien of Madison, AL and Greg Ponder and wife Tracy of Mooresville; brother, Kenneth Bastien and wife Gerry of Falls River, Mass. and 8 grandchildren. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in Trinity Episcopal Church, of which he was a member. Officiating will be Reverend Carol Hubbard. Burial will be in the Garden at Trinity. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5th at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville. At other times the family will be at the residence. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
