ROGER W. GREENWOOD ASHEVILLE – Roger Woodruff Greenwood, age 93 of Asheville died Sunday, March 6, 2016. Mr. Greenwood was born October 29, 1922 in Gaston County, NC and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was retired from Bell South. Preceding him in death are his parents, Grady and Cordelia Horton Greenwood; and wife, Wanda P. Greenwood who died in 1984. Surviving are his wife of 30 years Eloise West Greenwood; daughters, Lee Ann Lail and Mary Beth Edwards; grandchildren, Roger and Rodney Lail; five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Tonya Hill officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Danny Boone Employee Scholarship Fund, Office of Philanthropy, Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community, 1617 Hendersonville Rd., Asheville, NC 28803. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Deerfield Community Chapel.
