WEAVERVILLE—Roger Shepard Whitlock, age 92, of Weaverville, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
Mr. Whitlock was born September 18, 1920, in Cook County, Ill. He attended Princeton University class of 1942. He built transmitters for WKDN in Camden, N.J., and WGEM in Quincey, Ill. He was a ham radio operator since the age of 15. A veteran of the US Army serving during World War II, he was a radar officer and was part of the second wave at Omaha Beach and was also at Ardennes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Rhoda Shepard Whitlock; wife, Mary Frances Whitlock who died in 2002; and brothers, Victor, David and Alan.
Surviving are his daughters, Ione S. Whitlock of Weaverville and Harriet S. Whitlock of Maple Shade, N.J.; son, Victor B. Whitlock and wife Karen of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; grandchildren, Sarah Hader and husband Joseph and Ian Whitlock; and great grandson, Silas Ezekiel Hader.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at St. Matthews Anglican Church with Father John C. Lathrop officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
