Rosa Schuler passed surrounded by her loved ones on June 15, 2024. Preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Paulina Glos; brother, Aloysius Glos; sister, Anny Schwab; spouse, Erich Schuler; and son, Eric Schuler. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Buscaglia and Erica A. Lumpert and their spouses Gaspare and Daniel; her siblings and their families in Germany, Ingrid Springer and Erhard Glos with many nieces, nephews, and greats; and nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Rosa was born in Breitbach, Germany, on April 18, 1932. Growing up during World War II strengthened her into the strong woman she was. She cared for her mother during the loss of her father and nurtured her siblings when her mother couldn’t.
She came to America in 1952, nervous to start her new life here. It wasn’t long until she met her husband, Erich, and they were happily married and raising three children, Debbie, Erica, and Eric.
Although she lived and raised her family in New York, her love for her Heimat- Germany never faltered, in death she will be retuned to her birth home.
Rosa valued her family over everything else, working multiple jobs to support her family and provide them with everything they could ever want. It was her mission to make sure her children grew up with things she never had during her childhood in the war.
At the heart of who she was, Rosa was a loving nurturer and caretaker. She loved nothing more than taking care of her loved ones around her, her husband, her children, her nine grandchildren, and her five great grandchildren. She loved her Rose Garden and crewel work, making many people happy with her beautiful works.
As always, and still toward the end of her life, she loved to hug, dance, sing, and enjoy the company of those around her. No matter who passed her, she loved to stop everyone and share a hug and a smile. She never knew a stranger; her kindness was infectious.
Rosa’s Celebration of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 72 Culvern Street, Asheville, NC 28804. Father Patrick Cahill will officiate.
