WEAVERVILLE—Rose Candler Spittle, 76, of 75 Cole Road, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Mrs. Spittle was born June 17, 1935, in Swannanoa. She graduated from Black Mountain High School, class of 1953, Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte, and earned a degree in psychology from UNCA. She worked as a nurse for over 50 years, most recently for the Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care in Weaverville.
She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church where she started a prayer shawl ministry. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and knitted hundreds of sweaters for charity.
Mrs. Spittle was the daughter of the late Bascombe C. Candler and Julia Nichols Candler. Her husband of 48 years, Roger Spittle, and brother, Bascombe Candler, Jr., also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her sister, Helen Brown of Asheville; daughter, Alisa Beard and husband John of Biscoe; sons, Roger Spittle, Jr., and wife Denise of Charlotte, Mark Spittle of Welcome, and Timothy Spittle of Weaverville; grandchildren, Mattea Boone, Devin and Jacob Ketterer, Roger Spittle, III, Matthew Spittle, and Cameron Beard; and great grandson, Jack Boone.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Christ United Methodist Church, Weaverville, with Pastor Naomi King officiating and burial following at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.

She lived her life bringing joy to all who knew her and even to some who had never met her.
