WEAVERVILLE– Ross Jay Miller, age 98, of Weaverville, went home to Jesus, Sunday, February 18, 2018.
Ross was born October 24, 1919 in Eustis, Frontier County, Nebraska to the late Reverend Harvey C. and Golda Clark Miller. He was the oldest Eagle Scout in the country. Gardening was a passion of his that awarded him with prized Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Gladioli. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed the fight of a large mouth bass. Ross retired from DuPont after 40 years as a Chemist. While at DuPont he received 13 patents for explosives used during World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 76 1/2 years, Rose Marie Gerton Miller; son, Harvey C. Miller and wife Blanca; sister, Ruth Payne; nephews, Bill Payne and wife Suzanne, Doug Steel and wife Deb, Clyde Hayes and wife Peggy, Oscar Hayes and wife Judy; nieces, Ellen Schoo and husband Dave, Beverly Miller, Ruth Ghindea and husband John, Cindy Parker and husband Del, and Joyce Davis; grandchildren, Angie Miller, Debbie Miller, Jim Miller and wife Liz, Michael Miller and wife Dorothy, Keith Miller and wife Penny, David Andrade and wife Jeannette, Omar Andrade and wife Linda; 12 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday February 23, 2018 in Asheville First Church of the Nazarene, where he was an active member. Reverends Andrew Crimmins and James Staggs will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, NC 28787.
