Ruby Mabe Denton

RUBY MABE DENTON WEAVERVILLE – Ruby Mabe Denton, age 88 of Gill Branch Road went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Mrs. Denton was born February 26, 1928 in Burke County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was the Activities Director for WNC Baptist Retirement Home before retiring in 1989. An excellent cook, seamstress and crafts person, Ruby had a great love of flowers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a loyal pastor’s wife who loved people. Mrs. Denton was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher in various churches where her husband pastored. She was a member of the WMU Round Table Group at First Baptist Church Weaverville. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lura Ross Mabe; and sisters, Addie Mae Huffman, Annie Lee Hicks, and Verlene Rownd. Surviving are her husband of sixty four years, Reverend Lee Roy Denton; daughter, Phoebe Penley and husband Dennis of Weaverville; sons, Doug Denton and wife Julia of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jimmy Denton and wife Shelia of Faith, NC; grandchildren, Rebecca, Holly, Jake, Kaleigh, Kassie (Trent), Kaleb, Kaison, Adam (Tiffany), Alex (Kelly), and Austin (Elizabeth); great grandchildren, James, John and Brayden Penley; brothers in law, Robert Rownd and Roy Hicks, along with several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2016, in Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Ave, Asheville, with Reverends Clark Henderson and Gayle Brown officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until place in the church one hour prior to the services. At other times, the family will be at the home of Dennis and Phoebe Penley, 92 Alexander Rd., Weaverville. Flowers are welcome and appreciated.
