RUTH FISHER TOMPKINS WEAVERVILLE - Ruth Fisher Tompkins, age 84, of Oakland Street, died Saturday, April 11, 2015. Ruth was born April 28, 1930 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She taught school for 20 years at Weaverville Primary School and was a member of First Baptist Church, Weaverville. She was the daughter of the late Leonard James and Ella Buckner Fisher and wife of the late Jack W. Tompkins who died in 1961. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Katherine Cheek. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Tompkins of Weaverville; sister, Louise Collins of Arden; brothers, James S. Fisher of Marshall and Tommy Fisher of Weaverville. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Lee Roy Denton and Chaplain Mathew Stockstad officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday prior to her service. Flowers are welcome.
