ALEXANDER - Sam Everette Angel, age 85, of Alexander died Tuesday, March 17, 2015.
Sam was born April 15, 1929 in Yancey County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a Veteran of Korea and served in the Military Police. Sam was a passionate hunter and retired from the North Carolina Forest Service. He was the son of the late Willard Angel and Lina Parris Angel and also preceded in death by his sisters, Dema Griffin, Bertha Parham, Sue DeBruhl, Wilma Hollifield and Christine Moore; brothers, Ralph, Howard, Homer, Jay, Johnny and Mack Angel.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years Jean Ann Whiteside Angel; daughter, Patricia Grooms and husband Wesley of Candler; sons, Paul Angel and wife Maria of Alexander; Michael Angel of Swannanoa and Wesley Angel and wife Gwenda of Leicester; grandchildren, Amber, Colleen, Dawn and Forrest and great grandchildren, Alicia, Hannah, Breanna and Eli; in addition Papa Sam's girls, Cailyn and Skyler. He also leaves behind his best friend, Bruce Redman "Governor", and his wife Carolyn who always stood by Sam "true blue until the end". Also, he leaves countless other friends whose friendship he treasured.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Everette C. Haney, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in French Broad Baptist Church Cemetery, Alexander.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
