ASHEVILLE/JOHNS CREEK, GA—Sam L. Pritchard, 64, of Johns Creek, Ga., passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 after an extended illness. Mr. Pritchard was a vice president of Southern Insurance Underwriters of Alpharetta, Ga., where he was employed for 28 years. He was a past president of the Georgia Surplus Lines Association and taught continuing education for insurance agents in Georgia. Many insurance careers for young people were enhanced by his contributions, mentoring and teaching. Mr. Pritchard attended Woodfin School, graduating from Clyde A. Erwin School in 1962 and from UNC-Asheville in 1968. A life long gardener he also enjoyed ethnic cooking, reading of the classics and any form of music. He studied Religions. Mr. Pritchard was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. J. B. Brigman of Leicester; his grandmother, Mrs. Willie Pritchard and his father, Mr. Charles J. Pritchard. Surviving are his mother, Estelle B. Pritchard; sisters, Sherry Hensley and husband Ken and Kay Pritchard all of Asheville; brother Robert Pritchard and wife Ruth of Columbia, SC. Also surviving are his nephews, Rev. Jeff Hensley and Joel Hensley and their families; niece, Tracey Pritchard and her son, Donnie Pritchard. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009 in West Memorial Park with Dr. Jeff Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday May 3rd at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
