ASHEVILLE – Sandra Kay “Sandy” Buchanan won her battle with MS on January 21, 2021. She is now walking, for the first time in 15 years, on the streets of gold with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Sandy was born on May 14, 1950. She graduated from North Buncombe High School in 1968. She worked her entire career in the grocery business, serving as an assistant manager for both Ingles Markets and Food Lion. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.
The love of Sandy’s life were her nieces (7) and nephews (2) and her great-nieces (6) and great-nephews (8). She loved them all as though they were her own. Her other love was cooking, she was constantly feeding, her brother and sisters, their extended families, as well as her church family. She was an incredible cook and giving meals to her family was her way to show the love she had for you.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred Buchanan; brothers, William “Bill” Buchanan and Robert “Bob” Buchanan.
Sandy is survived by her sisters-in-law Fern Buchanan and Barbara Buchanan; sisters, Judy Buchanan of the home, Patricia Fisher (Grey) of Leicester; brothers, David Buchanan (Sharon) of Mauldin, SC, G.T. “Buck” Buchanan (Sharon) of Democrat, and John Buchanan (Kathy) of Alexander.
The entire family would like to thank Judith Buchanan for her dedication and commitment to taking care of Sandy over the last two decades. Because of Judith’s care, Sandy was able to stay in her home and maintain a quality of life through her decline.
A larger memorial service will be held at a later date.
Pastors Marjory and Ray Kiess, along with brother-in-law Grey Fisher will officiate the small immediate family services.
West Funeral Home is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, Sandy would have preferred a donation be made to her church, Alexander Chapel United Methodist as her church family surrounded her with love and support over her long battle with MS. If you would like to make a donation in her name, you can send checks to: Elizabeth Hawkins, 133 Blackberry Inn Rd Weaverville NC 28787.
For those who desire, condolences may be offered to the family under Miss Buchanan’s obituary at www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com.
