Sandra Whittemore Greene

WEAVERVILLE—Sandra Whittemore Greene, age 63, of Pleasant Grove Road died Sunday, November 29, 2009. Sandra was born March 26, 1946, in Buncombe County. She was a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University. She was employed with Mission Hospitals for the past 43 years, working as a former flight nurse on MAMA. She loved her calling as a nurse. Ms. Greene was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and involved with the Missions of the church. She was a daughter of Mae Harwood Whittemore and the late Paul Dewey Whittemore. Surviving in addition to her mother are her son, Dean Greene and wife Kim of Hendersonville; sister, Hilda McHone and husband R.J. of Weaverville; brothers, Duain and wife Faye of Hendersonville and Delain and wife Jean of Asheville; and grandchildren, Dylan, Kaylie and Blake. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2009, in Brown's Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Phillip Wilson, Rev. Duain Whittemore, and Rev. Delain Whittemore officiating. Burial will be in Penland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until one hour prior to the services.
