WEAVERVILLE - Sarah Katherine (Rector) McDevitt, 80, of Weaverville, formerly of Swannanoa, died at John Keever Solace Center Sunday, December 4, 2022.
Sarah was born January 11, 1942, in Kingsport Tennessee to the late Tommie and Mary Rector. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Edward McDevitt.
After being a homemaker and rearing her daughters, Sarah worked for the Salvation Army and retired in 2001. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She had a servant’s heart, volunteered at the Asheville Police Department, and was volunteer of the year in 2010. She was a blanketeer for Project Linus and a Hospice Festival of Trees designer for many years. She participated in shoebox ministries, homeless veterans winter gear campaign, as well as participating in many local churches, bible schools, mission projects, and activities.
She is survived by her daughters Annette Bucker and husband, Ken; Brenda Graham and husband, Harry; along with her beloved grandson Jay Graham; and many special nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville with Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm in the fellowship hall of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 754 Aiken Road, Asheville.
