SARAH LOUISE SCOTT GLASGOW
ASHEVILLE – Sarah Louise Scott Glasgow went to be with her Lord on April 3, 2016.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina on April 13, 1918 to the late Edward Franklin Scott and Celia Ann Proffitt Scott, she was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Brandon Kennedy Glasgow, son, Edward Kennedy Glasgow, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Glasgow, brother George Edward Scott, nephew George Edward Scott Jr., and niece Susan Beverly Scott Taylor.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Evangeline Glasgow and great-granddaughter Lux of Asheville; nephew’s wife, Lora Scott of Black Mountain; great-nephew George Edward Scott III and family, wife Sarah and children, Sam and Sophie, of Swannanoa; great-niece Margaret Scott of Asheville; and great-nephew Alec Taylor and wife Elisa of Maitland, Florida; her loved church family and special neighbors; Sandy and Steve Rice who were like family.
Mrs. Glasgow was educated in the Asheville City Schools and Cecil’s Business College. During the Roosevelt years, she and her aunt did much copper work and weaving at the old Orange Street School.
During World War II she served as a Block Leader in the Neighborhood Watch, and worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at the Man’s Store on Patton Avenue. In 1946 she married Brandon Glasgow of Black Mountain. After their son Edward arrived, she devoted her time to family and church, and became “Mama” to the neighborhood children. Serving as den mother to Cub Scouts, she was busy with crafts of all kinds. Through the years she collected dolls, many from other countries, and treasured a doll house made for her by her husband. She also enjoyed painting—oils, water color, china—and writing poems, short stories, and articles for church bulletin and Presbyterian Journal.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Weaverville, on April 24th, at 3:00p.m.
