WEAVERVILLE– Rev. Sherman Jerry Tweed, age 84, of Weaverville, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018. Rev. Tweed was born September 12, 1933 in Madison County to the late Liston C. and Ruby Jane Hunter Tweed; he was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Sherman was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and an avid beekeeper. He had pastored since 1972 in Madison, Buncombe, McDowell and Yancey counties. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lois Mae Coates Tweed who died in 2017; son, Jerry Tweed; daughter, Brenda Tweed; an infant granddaughter; sisters, Betty Fortner and Beulah Davis; brothers, Clyde and Richard Tweed. Surviving are his sister Jane Ramsey and husband, Frank; brothers, Reverend Walter Tweed and Kenny Tweed; several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 in Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Oak Grove Church Road, Marshall. Rev. Garry Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.
