Shirley Marie Rotolo, 55 years old of Weaverville, NC died of natural causes on September 28, 2024. She was born in Port au Prince on January 23, 1969 to Yves Lecoin and Rose Jerty Prezeau.
Shirley spent a happy early childhood in Port au Prince, Haiti, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York, with her parents and sister Regine. After earning a bachelor's degree in early education, she later earned her master's degree while working and raising her family full-time. Furthermore, she spoke four languages: French, Creole, English, and Italian. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, spouse, friend, and teacher adored by everyone around her.
Shirley Marie Rotolo was preceded in death by Rose Jerty Prezeau and survived by her spouse, Renato Rotolo, and children Ulisse Rotolo, Nausica Rotolo, and Gea Rotolo. Shirley was passionate about her role as a teacher for over 27 years with her most recent role of over 10 years at Odyssey Community School, where she taught Kindergarten and French. She was loved by the students she taught and greatly admired by her colleagues for her kind spirit and deep care for every student's well-being. Everyone who knew Shirley knew how much she loved to make art, write, and tend to her garden. Her creativity led to multiple paintings and the authoring of two children's books titled “Pick Up Your Toys, Kirk!” and “Kirk Goes to Kindergarten!”. In addition, her creative traits were passed on to all three of her children in the forms of painting, drawing, writing, and music. Shirley Rotolo will forever be remembered for being kind, generous, and loving. Family, friends, and students will live on with the care, knowledge, positivity, and strength that she has bestowed upon them. From now on she’ll be at peace watching above us all and her spirit will be transcribed into the hearts of all those who love her.
The first service will be held in New York with close family and friends. There will also be a service in Asheville, NC, which is to be determined due to Helene.
