WEAVERVILLE – Steve Cooper, 71, died peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at his residence surrounded by family.  Steve was the son of the late Charles Samuel and Zadie Kathleen Peters Cooper. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Samuel Cooper, Jr.

He was a native of West Virginia and a fan of WVU Mountaineer football.  He was an avid baseball fan and especially of the New York Yankees.  He moved to Weaverville in 1990 and was a successful publisher for over 25 years.  Steve was a car enthusiast with a special interest in Corvettes, Porsches and Mustangs, but a 1955 Chevrolet was his dream car.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janie; two sons, Brian and his wife, Angela and Blake and his wife, Holly; and two grandchildren, Sterling and Aiden.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2023, in the chapel of West Funeral Home. Rev. David Germer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in West Memorial Park.
