ASHEVILLE - Terry Robert Roberson, 67, beloved husband, father, "Tractor" and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in Wilmington, NC.
He was born in Asheville, NC on December 8, 1948 and is the son of the late Ged and Gaynell Roberson. He resided in Asheville for the majority of his life with his wife of 43 years, Ellen.
Terry graduated from Erwin High School in 1966 and then attended Mars Hill College for 2 years before he was drafted into the army. After serving his country in Vietnam he went on to receive a BS degree in Business from Western Carolina. It's there where he met the love of his life Ellen Stanley. They married in 1972 and subsequently raised 3 children.
After graduating, he went to work for Ford Motor Company, and resided for a brief time in Kansas and Nebraska. He then returned to Asheville to work in the family business serving as president/co-owner of Farm Equipment Company for the next 24 years.
Terry was a devoted father and active participant in his children's lives, spending his free time coaching little league, booster ball and serving as Hawk Club president at North Buncombe High School. He was also a well-respected community leader serving 9 years on the Buncombe County School Board.
Terry was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Asheville Country Club. It was there that he forged many friendships in the Saturday morning gang. After retiring from Farm Equipment Company, Terry pursued one of his lifelong dreams of travelling the U.S. in a motorhome with his trusted navigator, Ellen.
Terry was known for his infectious laugh, his crystal blue eyes, and his signature smile that could light up a room. He never knew a stranger and could make anyone feel welcome. He was a lover of family, cars--especially clean ones, fishing, and anything to do outdoors.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Clay Roberson (Adrienne) of Odenton, MD and Clint Roberson (Mary Ann) of Wilmington, NC and daughter Trisha Archer (Stan) of Wilmington, NC; 8 grandchildren; and sister Brenda Sisk of Hickory, NC.
