WEAVERVILLE - Thelma Frankel, born in Brevard and formerly from Salt Lake City, passed away in Asheville on Thursday, October 18, 2012, after a long and full life of 91 years. Thelma was preceded in death earlier this year by her husband of 62 years, Shikie.
Thelma attended Mars Hill College and graduated from the University of Utah. Together, Thelma and Shikie were in the retail fabric business, owning The Yardstick in Salt Lake for more than 35 years. In retirement in Asheville, they formed a thriving rental property business in which she was active until her death. Now they are together forever.
Beloved mother of Marc and mother-in-law of Jacky, both of St. Louis, proud and devoted grandmother of Alex of Los Angeles, caring sister of Wylma Monteith of Stanley, cherished aunt to Wes and Muni Friedman, both of Denver, and a dear friend to many people.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Officiating will be Rev. Alford Ottley. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
