THOMAS STANLEY JACON
WEAVERVILLE - Thomas Stanley Jacon, loving husband, father and grandfather, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tom and Dolores Frances McCabe Jacon have been married for 60 years.
Tom, the son of Polish immigrants Mary and Joseph Dziekan-later changed spelling to "Jacon"-was the youngest of 10 children. He was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Troy, New York.
He attended St. Joesph Elementary School, Catholic High and was an altar boy at Holy Trinity Church.
Tom then went overseas with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Columbus. He served from 1949 to 1953 and visited 53 countries during his enlistment.
Tom and Dolores were married in 1954 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Wynantskill, New York.
Their three children, Diane Jacon Kircher (Tim) of Saratoga Springs, New York, Paul Jacon (Barbara) of Asheville and Michele Jacon-Duffy (David), of Cincinnati, Ohio, were raised in East Schodack, New York.
Tom began his career with Huyck Felt in 1956 and stayed with the company for 38 years.
Tom, Dolores, Paul and Michele moved to Asheville in 1978.
Tom's dedication to his family will be his legacy.
Tom believed in supporting youth athletics and coached basketball and baseball in Troy, NY and East Schodack, NY. Tom played basketball and baseball until age 40 when he took up golf. He played regular games of golf with groups of friends all over NC, SC and TN.
Tom remained active and involved in his grandchildren's lives, even from a distance. He never missed a first communion, confirmation or graduation, and attended many youth sporting events. He supported all the children's high school and college careers and religiously followed their respective collegiate basketball teams.
Tom is survived by his wife, three children, and nine grandchildren, Lindsay Patton and Tyler Thomas Jacon of Asheville, Zachary Jacon Kircher of Saratoga Springs NY, and Marais, Jared, Noah, Gabriel, Landin, and Eli Jacon-Duffy of Cincinnati, OH. He was a loving uncle with over 100 nieces and nephews scattered all over the United States.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Eugene Catholic Church on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., where he has been a member for thirty-six years and taught Sunday school for eight years.
